NEW YORK (AP) — Once again, U.S. labor unions are flexing their muscles in the national spotlight. In Hollywood, the actors union reached a tentative deal with major studios late Wednesday to end a months-long strike. UNION RATES HAVE BEEN FALLING FOR DECADES. Only 6% of U.S. private-sector workers belong to unions today, a sliver of the 35% that were union members in 1953. That means that what worked in auto workers' labor campaign, for example, may not look the same or be possible in other industries.

For individual consumers deciding whether to watch, it depends on their goal. “The question for all workers and consumers in any strike is: Which side are you on?” said Dan Cornfield, a professor of sociology at Vanderbilt University and a labor expert. When workers are striking, there are ways for consumers and members of the public to show their support. On the other hand, streamers may be able to weather a long strike because of the large inventory of content they’ve built up. “At the moment,” Litwin said, “it wouldn’t make a lot of sense to take this out on the theaters themselves.”

Akash Nigam, the founder of Genies, purchased ChatGPT Plus accounts for all of his 120 employees. A CEO is spending thousands each month buying ChatGPT Plus accounts for every single employee at his company — and he says he's already seeing gains. While it has only been a month since Genies' employees have had their accounts, Nigam said he has "already seen many tasks get accelerated." The employees that are "using AI effectively" will be up for a promotion and raise, he said. Even Microsoft is letting employees use ChatGPT — as long as they don't share confidential information with the tool.
"It's absolutely true that AI applications like ChatGPT can very much improve workers' lives," Mark Muro, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution previously told Insider. But if used correctly, ChatGPT can help some workers with tasks and save them time while doing so. Insider spoke with six workers in sectors that include education and real estate who are using ChatGPT to make their jobs easier. A realtor with eXp Realty also used ChatGPT for a listing in Iowa that was highlighted in a CNN post. Now two months later, LaRue told Insider she uses ChatGPT "everyday" to help write proposals, video scripts, and press releases.
